Windsurfing: Lake Nitnat, Vancouver Island, Canada Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: Don't ask... Surf / Sea State: Flat Air Temperature: 19 Sea Temperature: 18 Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: Distance Covered:
It took 24 hours to get to Nitnat from Seattle via Canadian immigration, 2
hours on the world's oldest ferry, a very cold night in Canada's most
overpriced crap campsite, a brilliant garden visit (Butchart), lots of
driving, topped off with 90 mins of shaking my mate's 4x4 to bits as the
last 50 Km was on unmade roads through the forest...
The setting was stunning (temperate rainforest), the wind howling.
According to the other guys, it had been blowing 5.0 weather every day for
20 days, and this was the strongest since (it was 4.0 weather).
I pitched my tent 100m from the shore (the nearest I could get), rigged up
my 4.5 & wave board, and spent ages faffing about getting it all carried to
the water. Changed into my wettie, back to the water... the wind dropped.
Carried all the kit back (2 trips), rigged up the 6.8 and Carve, back to
the water (2 trips), the wind had completely died. Carried all the kit back
(2 trips) thinking how wierd it was to be sweating in a wetsuit, carrying
windsurf kit through a rainforest.
So, after 90 minutes all I had acheived was getting cold, sweaty, and
smelly. And there was no running water/showers.
Opened my only bottle of wine to get pissed instead... the cork had soaked
through and it was off.
Yes, I was one F***ing ray of sunshine that evening!!!
